The Bunker Hill Bears waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 49-48 win over West Lincoln. Winning is a bit easier when you make five more threes than your opponent, as Bunker Hill did.
Damireona Burch was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Bunker Hill's points. Megan Starnes was another key contributor, scoring six points along with ten rebounds and three blocks.
Defeat or not, West Lincoln got some senior leadership from Zoey Owenby and Carolina Robinson. Owenby scored 20 points along with six rebounds and five assists, while Robinson. dropped a double-double on 16 points and 17 rebounds. Robinson is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season.
Even though they lost, West Lincoln were working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Bunker Hill's win bumped their record up to 6-14. As for West Lincoln, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-13.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bunker Hill will face off against the Blue Devils at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Maiden will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. As for West Lincoln, they will head out on the road to square off against the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Caldwell has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 5.
