Brendan Nosovitch and
Kevin Gulyas lit up the scoreboard often on Friday night while leading
Allentown Central Catholic (Allentown, Pa.) to a wild 61-54 victory over Valley View (Archbald, Pa.) during the first round of the PIAA Class 3A state tournament.
Nosovitch, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound senior quarterback who is committed to the University of South Carolina, passed for 487 yards and eight touchdowns, in addition to running for a ninth score. Gulyas was on the receiving end of nine passes for 220 yards and five touchdowns. They have played together since they were in first grade, according to the Allentown Morning Call.
It was only fitting that they would connect on the winning touchdown - a 23-yard pass - with just 31 seconds left. It marked the 100th career scoring strike for Nosovitch.
Though just 8-5 for the year, Central will play
Shamokin Area (Coal Township, Pa.) in the state quarterfinals next Friday.
