After four games on the road, Pillager is heading back home. They will take on the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, Pillager beat New York Mills 61-50. Given Pillager's advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while New York Mills is ranked 419th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pillager's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Parker Schaefer, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds and two steals, and Christian Hooge, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 19 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Hooge has scored at least a third of Pillager's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Imdieke, who scored six points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Wadena-Deer Creek came up short against Henning on Tuesday and fell 72-60.
Pillager is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. As for Wadena-Deer Creek, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-5.
Things could have been worse for Pillager, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 74-59 loss to Wadena-Deer Creek when the teams last played back in January.
