The Havelock Rams will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Cape Fear Colts at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Havelock had no problem doing just that on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Dixon 62-0 at home. The victory was just business as usual for Havelock, who after 11 games remain undefeated this season.
Havelock's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Lebron Sharpe, who rushed for 151 yards and four touchdowns on only nine carries, and Jonathan Williams, who rushed for 141 yards and three touchdowns on only seven carries. Williams' longest rush was for an incredible 92 yards. Another player making a difference was Jalen Morgan, who gained 120 total yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Cape Fear's and Western Alamance's match on Friday was close at halftime, but Cape Fear turned on the heat in the second half with 17 points. Cape Fear put the hurt on Western Alamance with a sharp 33-13 win. Winning may never get old, but Cape Fear sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Cape Fear relied on the efforts of Jeremiah Melvin, who picked up 138 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and Geronimo Sanchez, who rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries. Melvin has been hot recently, having posted two or more receiving touchdowns the last four times he's played.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Cape Fear's defense and their six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Robert Moore and Desmond Harris who racked up five sacks between them.
Havelock's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-0. As for Cape Fear, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's match: Havelock has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 333.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Cape Fear struggles in that department as they've been averaging 189.5 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
