Ray and Duncan are an even 3-3 against one another since September of 2016, but not for long. The Bearcats will face off against the Wildkats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Duncan will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Ray extended their winning streak to five on Friday. The Bearcats took their matchup with ease, bagging a 54-26 victory over Fort Thomas. The Bearcats pushed the score to 48-18 by the end of the third, a deficit the Apaches cut but never quite recovered from.
Ray's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jesse James, who threw for 295 yards and two TDs while completing 72% of his passes, and also rushed for 72 yards and one score on only six carries. James also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making 12 total tackles and defending four passes in addition to snagging three interceptions which he returned one-yard for a touchdown. RJ Nunez was in the mix too, providing Ray with three touchdowns.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Ray's defense and their six sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Nunez and Cyrus Putman, who each picked up one sack apiece. James got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Duncan blew past Baboquivari, posting a 50-20 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Wildkats have posted against the Warriors since October 12, 2018.
Ray better keep an eye on PABLO RUIZ. He was instrumental in Duncan's win, throwing for 127 yards and four TDs on only 12 passes, while also rushing for 68 yards. They are undefeated when RUIZ posts three or more passing touchdowns, but 0-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was MARK BEJARANO, who gained 89 total yards and two touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Duncan was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 232 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.
The victory got Duncan back to even at 3-3. As for Ray, their record is now 5-1.
Everything went Ray's way against Duncan in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as Ray made off with a 40-20 win. Will the Bearcats repeat their success, or do the Wildkats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
