5A Region 3 recap October 8, 2013
Pearl River Central was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from eighth to sixth in 5A Region 3. The Blue Devils defeated South Jones 54-0 earlier in the week.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Laurel beat Wingfield 49-6. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
David Hodo provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Wayne County topped Brookhaven. He completed 13 passes for 179 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 49 yards. Hodo's key target this week was Dejarvis Chambers, who caught 2 passes for 52 yards.
Keon Howard threw for 228 yards and 2 touchdowns. He went 10-18 with 1 interception.
Octavious Cooley was the best receiver in the league this week as Laurel beat the Falcons. Cooley racked up 5 receptions for 83 yards. Kobe Drummer helped Laurel's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 51 yards.
Todd Breland's team's Howard and Omar Bayless have formed a dream team this season, leading 5A Region 3 in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Howard has thrown for 1,136 yards this season, while Bayless has 19 catches for 477 yards. Dallas Sims from the War Eagles leads the league in rushing with 442 yards.
The Panthers are currently in fourth, while West Jones is in second.
The Braves lost to Pearl River Central 54-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
