If Atchison pitcher
Brett Norris keeps blowing the heat by opposing batters the way he has the past two weeks, a name change may be in the offing.
"No-No Norris" has a nice ring.
In his last two outings, Norris led the Redmen to shutout wins over Maur Hill-Mount Academy (10-0) and Kansas City-Schlagle (15-0) after allowing just one runner on the pads in each contest.
Norris allowed a first-inning walk in last week’s win over the Junior Ravens. Then against Schlagle, a fielding error in the opening frame put an opposing runner on board. In his latest no-hit performance, Norris threw 35 strikes in 52 pitches and struck out six batters.
“The defense is the reason I have two no-hitters,” Norris told the
Atchison Globe. “I’ve just got to keep it going. It doesn’t even matter right now. It’s all about regionals and state and whatnot.”
Other no-nosHillsboro pitcher Jacob Edwards, who struck out 11 batters in six innings, threw a no-hitter during last weekend’s 10-0 win over Marion. ...
Central Heights (Richmond) pitcher Karly Schulte threw a perfect game last week while leading the Vikings to an 8-0 shutout of Uniontown. ... Whitney Kistler of
Udall threw a perfect game for her second no-hitter of the season while leading the Eagles to a 15-0 four inning win over West Elk.
Record breakers and win streaksAs far as the Garden City girls soccer team is concerned, turnabout is fair play.
A year ago Hays knocked off the Buffaloes to put the skids on Garden City’s Western Athletic Conference winning streak. On Monday, the Buffaloes redeemed themselves with a 3-1 triumph, and extended its league unbeaten streak to 35 games.
Shawnee Mission East shattered the girls 1,600 relay record at the Kansas Relays in Lawrence last weekend by running to the tune of 3 minutes, 58.42 seconds. The Lancer relay consisting of Hannah Satterlee, Abby Dunn, Mallory Kirby and Hanna Jane Stradinger finished ahead of Gardner-Edgerton’s time of 4:01.29.
According to Delta Timing’s results, the top 28 clockings in the preliminaries of the mile relay broke Wichita Independent’s 2005 record of 4:19.52. All seven relays to run in the finals also bettered the old mark.
