The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial Wolverines were the 22-21 winner over the Mission Veterans Memorial Patriots when they last played one another back in October of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial ended up on the wrong side of a rough 49-28 walloping at the hands of Mission Veterans Memorial on Friday. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-14.
Despite the loss, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial saw an underclassman step up: Miguel Resendiz rushed for 129 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries. Another player making a difference was Ryan Reyna, who rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown.
It was another big night for Braden Luedeker, who rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, and also threw for 336 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.4% of his passes. Luedeker is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last five games he's played. Edward Martinez was another key contributor, gaining 111 total yards and three touchdowns.
This is the second loss in a row for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial and nudges their season record down to 7-2. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-0 Roma (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 77.8% over those games). As for Mission Veterans Memorial, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-4.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial will head out on the road to face off against Pioneer at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pioneer has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 370 points over their last eight matches. As for Mission Veterans Memorial, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Roma at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Roma is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
