The St. Peter Saints will square off against the Albert Lea Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
On Thursday, St. Peter made easy work of Waseca and carried off an 11-1 win. That looming 11-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Saints yet this season.
Auden Anderson made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashley Liebl, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Allie Dent, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
St. Peter kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Albert Lea). Everything went their way against Red Wing on Thursday as they made off with a 15-3 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Tigers, who have now won five contests in a row.
Margaret Olson and Hannah Schuhmacher did most of the damage at the plate: Olson got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI, while Schuhmacher got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Nevaeh Wachols was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
St. Peter has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Albert Lea, their win bumped their record up to 5-8.
Albert Lea's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. St. Peter has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Albert Lea, though, as they've been averaging only 2 strikeouts. Will St. Peter keep running through batters, or will the Tigers buck the trend?
Everything went St. Peter's way against Albert Lea when the teams last played back in May of 2015, as St. Peter made off with an 18-8 victory. Do the Saints have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
