Basketball Recap: University Piles Up the Points Against Northridge

While University didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They claimed a resounding 80-50 win over the Northridge Grizzlies. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 20 points or more this season.

John Elbe continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in steals (four). Gage Schminke was another key player, putting up 15 points and five rebounds.

University was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northridge only posted five assists.

Amadrick Woods and Es Sylvere certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Woods went 5 of 9 on his way to 13 points and six rebounds, while Sylvere posted 22 points. That was a full 44% of Northridge's points, marking the third time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryson Mena, who had three points.

The victory made it two in a row for University and bumps their season record up to 6-2. As for Northridge, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-6.

University will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Timnath at 7:30 p.m. on January 14, 2025. After both having extra time off, Northridge and Wellington will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
