The Kearny Komets had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They strolled past Hilltop with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 62-48. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Kearny also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.
Kearny found their leader in underclassman Cameron Ackerman, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ackerman has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Charles Thomas, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Hilltop's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaac Meza, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Gonzales, who scored 14 points along with six assists and five steals.
Kearny's victory ended a eight-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-20. As for Hilltop, their loss was their 13th straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-22.
Kearny will take on Patrick Henry at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Kearny focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Saturday. As for Hilltop, they will head out on the road to challenge Montgomery at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Montgomery will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Hilltop surely won't give up without a fight.
