Tabernacle Christian has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Mooresville Christian Eagles at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Tabernacle Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Tabernacle Christian strolled past Crosspointe Christian Academy with points to spare, taking the game 45-30.
Tabernacle Christian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Liz Southerland, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Southerland has scored at least a third of Tabernacle Christian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Annie Sichting, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 assists.
Mooresville Christian proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 29) but on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 41-38 victory over Central Christian Academy. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Mooresville Christian.
Mooresville Christian can attribute much of their success to Cassidy Wright, who scored 17 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Bailey Hayden, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Tabernacle Christian pushed their record up to 9-2 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.5 points per game. As for Mooresville Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 3-10.
Friday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Tabernacle Christian haven't given up the ball easily this season, having only averaged 8.6 turnovers per game. It's a different story for Mooresville Christian, though, as they've been averaging 21.4 turnovers per game. Given Tabernacle Christian's sizeable advantage in that area, Mooresville Christian will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Tabernacle Christian against Mooresville Christian in their previous matchup last Tuesday as the team secured a 62-31 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Tabernacle Christian since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
