The Taft School Big Red will square off against the Choate Rosemary Hall School Wild Boars at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Taft School has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with nine straight defeats, while Choate Rosemary Hall School will come in with six straight victories.
Taft School is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell 13-10 to Greens Farms Academy on Saturday. Even if the Big Red couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Taft School saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julianna Picard, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that Picard has hit this season.
Meanwhile, Choate Rosemary Hall School made easy work of Northfield Mount Hermon on Saturday and carried off a 17-3 victory. The Wild Boars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by eight runs or more this season.
Natalia Draghi made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Maggie Swanson was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. Gioia Segui was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
Choate Rosemary Hall School kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive contests.
Choate Rosemary Hall School's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-1. As for Taft School, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.
Taft School took their victory against Choate Rosemary Hall School when the teams last played back in May of 2015 by a conclusive 16-3 score. Will the Big Red repeat their success, or do the Wild Boars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
