The Providence School Stallions won against the West Port Wolf Pack last Saturday with 48 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Saturday. Providence School pulled ahead with a 48-47 photo finish over West Port. Given Providence School's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while West Port is ranked 124th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Providence School was led to victory by Kasey Davey and Julianna Baskin. Davey scored 16 points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Baskin scored nine points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Davey continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Janai Jordan was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, West Port still got an impressive performance from Leanna Pabst, who scored 20 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Pabst has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Calise Smith, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
The win (which was Providence School's third in a row) raised their record to 17-2. As for West Port, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Providence School will take on Tocoi Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Tocoi Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday. As for West Port, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Gainesville at 7:00 p.m.
