The Hillsboro Hiltoppers won against the Southwestern Piasa Birds last Saturday with 44 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Thursday. Hillsboro enjoyed a cozy 44-26 victory over Southwestern. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Hillsboro also won the last time the pair played back in January.
Hillsboro can attribute much of their success to Tatum Christian, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Christian has scored at least 25% of Hillsboro's points. Aubrey Evans was another key contributor, scoring 6 points.
Southwestern's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Vivian Zurheide, who scored 7 points along with 9 rebounds. Zurheide scored a full 26.9% of Southwestern's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Josie Hagen, who scored 4 points along with 6 rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for Hillsboro and bumps their season record up to 2-5. As for Southwestern, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hillsboro will take on Marquette Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Southwestern, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bunker Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
