The New London Whalers waltzed into their game on Saturday with four straight wins but they left with five. They were the clear victor by a 75-54 margin over Killingly. Given New London's advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while Killingly is ranked 123rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
New London got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Devan Williams out in front who scored 21 points. Williams is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last seven games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Savahn Warren, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
New London pushed their record up to 11-3 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 83.0 points per game. As for Killingly, they have fallen quite a ways from their 17-6 record last season and are now at 5-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New London will take on Windham at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Windham focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday. As for Killingly, they will be playing at home against Plainfield at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
