Somers has gone 7-2 against Bolton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Spartans will head out to face off against the Bulldogs at 3:45 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Somers made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Stafford, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Spartans never let the Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 6-0 win on Monday. The Spartans not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since May 10, 2024.
Jack Olearcek was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. Will Accorsi was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Somers was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Stafford only posted a batting average of .095.
Meanwhile, Bolton gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on East Windsor with a sharp 18-3 victory.
Logan Clark and Jackson AmEnde made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Clark tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, AmEnde struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave Clark a new career-high in strikeouts (three). At bat, Clark scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while AmEnde went 2-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one triple.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jake Young, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Andrew Goodness, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Somers' first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Bolton, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Somers' speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's match. The Spartans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Bolton, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Somers continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Somers' way against Bolton in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Somers made off with an 11-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
