After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Summit, University Prep was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 14-4 margin over the Hesperia Christian Patriots. Considering the Jaguars have won six games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Brie (Brieana) Villenueva was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. What's more, she gave up only two walks, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Paityn Zimmerman was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. Juliette Torres was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while going 3-for-4.
University Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hesperia Christian only posted an OBP of .346.
University Prep's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Hesperia Christian, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-5-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. University Prep will host Duarte at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Duarte is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season. Hesperia Christian will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Western Christian at 3:15 p.m. on April 2nd.
