The Pojoaque Valley Elks/Elkettes's five-game losing streak came to an end on Thursday. They came out on top against Manzano by a score of 45-35. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 13 to 4 on the offensive boards, as Pojoaque Valley did.
Among those leading the charge was Marisela Bowie, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Jasmine Valdez was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
When it comes to explaining why Manzano lost, one person who can't be blamed is Zaria Gomez. Despite the final result, she went 6 for 13 from beyond the arc en route to 23 points and 1 assist. Gomez hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games.
Pojoaque Valley's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-9. As for Manzano, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-9.
Pojoaque Valley's road trip will continue as they head out to face Hot Springs at 12:30 p.m. on January 13th. As for Manzano, they will be playing at home against Highland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Highland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Wednesday.
