Marco Leflore made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Rylan Baldwin was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Drew McDonald also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
Meanwhile, Escambia entered their tilt with Pine Forest on Friday with seven consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with eight. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Eagles an 11-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Gators, who have now won four matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.
Carter Mills tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Clayton Sanders, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Taylor, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.
Escambia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in eight consecutive contests.
Escambia pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for St. Andrew's Episcopal, their record is now 7-4.
St. Andrew's Episcopal came up short against Escambia in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, falling 5-1. Can St. Andrew's Episcopal avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
