The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks will take on the Darby Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Seeley-Swan's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
On Friday, Seeley-Swan didn't have too much trouble with Superior as they won 56-42.
Seeley-Swan had a senior duo take command as Blake Irwin threw for 285 yards and four touchdowns on only 19 passes and Quinlan McClure rushed for 154 yards and a pair of TDs on only 14 carries. McClure's longest rush was for an impressive 60 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. The team also got some help courtesy of Talon Good, who rushed for 65 yards and one score on only six carries.
Seeley-Swan was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 259 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive contests.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Seeley-Swan's defensive line and their seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Jay Garland and Derrick Brovold, who racked up five sacks between them.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Darby, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They snuck past St. Regis with a 40-34 win on Friday.
Seeley-Swan better keep an eye on McCoy Townsend. He was instrumental in Darby's win, rushing for 313 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. Townsend is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 148 every time he's taken the field this season.
Darby's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points over those games. As for Seeley-Swan, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Seeley-Swan has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 255.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Darby struggles in that department as they've been averaging 310.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Seeley-Swan against Darby in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 70-38 win. Do the Blackhawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
