The Monte Vista Pirates took care of business in their home opener on Thursday (and then some). They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Pueblo Centennial 49-16 at home.
Monte Vista was led to victory by Zariah Archuleta and Heysenny Beltran. Archuleta scored 10 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 steals, while Beltran scored 16 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Henderhan, who scored 4 points along with 8 rebounds and 4 steals.
Monte Vista's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Pueblo Centennial, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Monte Vista will head out on the road to face off against Pueblo Central at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Pueblo Centennial, they will be playing at home against Rocky Ford at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Rocky Ford focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 32 on Thursday.
