The Ferndale Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the St. Bernard's Crusaders at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games Ferndale has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
The home team had won the previous seven meetings between Ferndale and South Fork, and South Fork kept the tradition alive. The Wildcats fell just short of the Cubs by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Wildcats in their meetings with the Cubs: they've now lost three in a row.
Madison Gossi made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Abagail Gossi, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, St. Bernard's fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Hoopa Valley on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 16-15.
Makinsey Lemley stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 2-for-5 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Tallman, who went 2-for-5 with four runs, one double, and one RBI.
Ferndale's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for St. Bernard's, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Ferndale hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. However, it's not like St. Bernard's struggles in that department as they've averaged .372. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ferndale was able to grind out a solid win over St. Bernard's in their previous matchup back in March, winning 8-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
