The Lakeland Lakers will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against the Fort Wayne South Side Archers at 8:00 a.m. on December 23rd. Lakeland has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Last Tuesday, Lakeland came up short against Westview and fell 61-54.
The losing side was boosted by Olivia Oman, who scored 22 points. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for her. Katelyn Ryan was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Even though they lost, Lakeland were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Fort Wayne South Side's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 56-23 loss at the hands of Pike. While losing is never fun, Fort Wayne South Side can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 306th, while Pike is ranked 88th).
Lakeland's defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-13. As for Fort Wayne South Side, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Lakeland against Fort Wayne South Side in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 58-24 win. With Lakeland ahead 36-8 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
