After a string of four wins, the Umatilla Bulldogs's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Eustis by a score of 51-49. Umatilla lost against Eustis in their previous head to head back in January of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 48-17 score last time.
Despite the loss, Umatilla saw an underclassman step up: Herva Brutus dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds. Brutus is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayda Washington, who scored 8 points.
Umatilla's loss dropped their record down to 4-1. As for Eustis, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-0.
Umatilla will challenge Lake Brantley at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake Brantley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 453rd, while Umatilla is ranked 55th). As for Eustis, they will be playing in front of their home fans against The Villages Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
