1A Region 4 recap September 17, 2013
Martavious Brown of Notasulga ran for the longest rushing play in 1A Region 4 this season against Verbena last week. Brown ran for 72 yards on the play and finished with 228 on the day as his team beat the Red Devils.
Fayetteville moved up to 317 from 355 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Wolves were able to make move up by besting Wadley 31-27.
Aurick Cloud was the best receiver in the league this week as Notasulga beat Verbena. Cloud racked up 4 receptions for 97 yards.
Tyari Powell put up the best numbers in passing as Fayetteville defeated the Bulldogs. He had a total of 3 completions for 44 yards. Powell's favorite target this week was Zane McGrady, who caught 2 passes for 37 yards.
Brown was the best running back in 1A Region 4 this week. Teammate Rondarius Stewart added to the ground attack by rushing for 82 yards.
Brown was a force in the backfield as James Lucas' team defeated Mike Harris' team.
Brown provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Blue Devils bested the Red Devils.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Notasulga's Alexander Woodard and Cloud have proven to be a lethal combination. Woodard has thrown for 184 yards this season, while Cloud has 9 catches for 156 yards. John Limbaugh's team's Dustin Ingram leads the league in rushing yards with 445.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when the Blue Devils' Cloud goes up against the Wolves' Payton McKee.
Next week's game between Notasulga and Fayetteville will feature an aerial matchup as Woodard tests his arm against McKee's defensive ability.
As it stands, the Blue Devils are in third, while the Wolves are in second.
There should be lots of points scored when Notasulga and Fayetteville face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Blue Devils comes in having scored 89 this season, while the Wolves have scored 112. Notasulga scored 60 points last week as it defeated Verbena.
Talladega County Central was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from eighth to fifth in the league. The Fighting Tigers beat Winterboro 22-21 earlier in the week.
