Baseball Recap: Skyline Drops Season-High Score on Manassas Park

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Skyline). They blew past the Manassas Park Cougars 18-1 on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Hawks with their most commanding win of the season.

Cole Hensley and McKinley Tolliver were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Hensley tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Meanwhile, Tolliver tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Hensley a new career-high in strikeouts (four). At the plate, Hensley went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs, while Tolliver got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Izaiah Matthews was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Kaiden Brown was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Skyline was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Skyline has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Manassas Park, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-9.

Looking ahead, Skyline will challenge Brentsville District at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Manassas Park, they will take on Handley at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cougars are facing the Judges at the right time seeing as the Judges are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
