The Reno Huskies were the 48-37 winner over the South Tahoe Vikings when they last played one another back in November of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Reno fell 46-38 to South Tahoe on Thursday. Reno has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Reno still got an impressive performance from Kindle Rowe, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and seven assists. Rowe scored a full 26.3% of Reno's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Natalia Schettler was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Reno were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
South Tahoe's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Campbell Mathews led the charge by scoring 18 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Those six steals set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Wolfe, who scored nine points along with five steals.
Reno's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for South Tahoe, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-6 record this season.
Reno and Hug will face off at 7:15 p.m. on December 28, 2023 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hug comes in still looking for their first win of the season. South Tahoe and Portola will round out the year against one another at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at. Portola will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 772nd, while South Tahoe is ranked 34th).
