The Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets will face off against the Dublin Coffman Shamrocks at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mt. Vernon has five straight wins, Dublin Coffman has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Mt. Vernon came out on top against Licking Heights on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run second inning. The Yellowjackets blew past the Hornets 8-1. Considering the Yellowjackets have won six games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Camden Firebaugh was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Ezra Kurek was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Zac Clow, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Dublin Coffman and Upper Arlington, and Upper Arlington kept the tradition alive. The Shamrocks came up short against the Golden Bears on Friday, falling 15-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Shamrocks have suffered since April 14th.
Dublin Coffman saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Drew Lundgren, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Mt. Vernon's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Dublin Coffman, their loss dropped their record down to 5-16.
