The Cranston East Thunderbolts will head out on the road to take on the Woonsocket Villa Novans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Cranston East and 30 for Woonsocket.
On Saturday, Cranston East came up short against Johnston and fell 56-49.
Despite their defeat, Cranston East saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Mya Jiminez, who scored 19 points, was perhaps the best of all. That was a full 38.8% of Cranston East's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Jayna Gunderway was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Woonsocket suffered their biggest defeat since December 13, 2023 on Friday. They were beaten by Moses Brown 54-15. While losing is never fun, Woonsocket can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Rhode Island basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while Moses Brown is ranked second).
Cranston East's defeat was their ninth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-11. As for Woonsocket, their loss dropped their record down to 0-12.
Everything came up roses for Cranston East against Woonsocket in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 72-7 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cranston East since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
