After a string of five wins, the Grand County Red Devils's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Duchesne by a score of 66-63. Grand County was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
Grand County's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trace York, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. York is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Mckinney, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Grand County's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-10. As for Duchesne, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grand County and the Broncos will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Utah (San Juan is ranked 108th, while the Red Devils are ranked 87th). As for Duchesne, they will head out on the road to challenge the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Gunnison Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully the Eagles like a good challenge.
