The Challis Vikings will challenge the Firth Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Challis is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against West Jefferson on Friday as they made off with a 24-16 win. With that victory, the Vikings brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.
Chayten Smith made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Challis: the team is 4-2 when he allows at most two hits, but 3-8 otherwise. Smith was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and three runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, Carter Ivie was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with five runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. Those five runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Roy Jones, who went 2-for-6 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Challis kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Firth, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over Declo on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now won four in a row.
Firth let Brycen Andersen and Beau Ringel run wild. Andersen went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Ringel got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Kamdon Bott was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one double.
Challis' victory bumped their record up to 7-10. As for Firth, their win bumped their record up to 10-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Challis has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Firth struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Challis suffered a grim 19-0 defeat to Firth in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Vikings have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
