Two dominant guards in Tierra Coleman and Soraya Jokhan are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Wekiva Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Winter Springs Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Wekiva focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday.
Wekiva's recent rough patch got a bit rougher after their third straight loss. They lost to Windermere Prep at home by a decisive 47-28 margin.
Despite their defeat, Wekiva saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Senaia Asanya, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Coleman, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Winter Springs' 22-6 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 59-39 walloping at the hands of Oviedo on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Winter Springs has suffered since December 12, 2023.
Wekiva's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-9. As for Winter Springs, their loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-10.
Wekiva took a serious blow against Winter Springs in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 66-35. Can Wekiva avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
