Baseball Recap: New Athens Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

New Athens had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They never let the Breese Central Cougars get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

The result came thanks to Bobby Casey's shutout, as he gave up just two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, New Athens' win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brendan Phillips, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

New Athens' record is now 7-5. As for Breese Central, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New Athens will welcome Okawville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Breese Central, they will be playing at home against Mascoutah at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cougars 4, the Indians 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
