The Mt. Vernon Wildcats will face off against the Boonville Pioneers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Mt. Vernon has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Mt. Vernon walked away with it. They walked away with a 42-29 win over the Bulldogs on Tuesday. That 13 point margin sets a new team best for Mt. Vernon this season.
Arlissa Sharber was nothing short of spectacular: she dropped a double-double on 23 points and 18 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Mt. Vernon's points. Another player making a difference was Hannah McNeece, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Boonville's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Tuesday after their ninth straight loss. They fell 58-48 to Evansville Reitz. While losing is never fun, Boonville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 287th, while the Panthers are ranked 56th).
Mt. Vernon's win bumped their record up to 3-20. As for Boonville, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-19.
Mt. Vernon was taken down by the Pioneers 53-18 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Mt. Vernon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
