The Cheylin Cougars fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Southwest Roughriders on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 53-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Roughriders. Cheylin's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Pablo Bermudez and Logan McCarty certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Bermudez scored 17 points along with seven steals, while McCarty scored 15 points along with two steals. McCarty hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Victor Hernandez, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Cheylin's loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Southwest, their win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-10.
Cheylin will head out on the road to challenge Hi-Plains at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hi-Plains will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 305th in Colorado, while Cheylin is ranked 102nd in Kansas). As for Southwest, they will face off against Cambridge at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
