The Clay Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Northview Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Clay will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Clay's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over Ross.
Darin Fussell was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Landon Echelberry, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Chase Vriezelaar also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Northview duked it out with Whitmer on Tuesday. The Wildcats came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 8-3.
Graham Newnham looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Quinton Wilson was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Karson Schlosser, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
Clay's record is now 8-4. As for Northview, their record now sits at 7-3.
Northview's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Clay has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Northview, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will Clay keep running through batters, or will the Wildcats buck the trend?
Clay skirted past Northview 6-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
