Lathrop is 8-2 against Johansen since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Lathrop Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Johansen Vikings at 4:00 p.m. Lathrop is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Johansen is facing Lathrop at the wrong time: Lathrop suffered their first home loss of the season on Wednesday and they're likely out for redemption. They lost 13-3 to the Bulldogs. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Spartans have suffered since April 11, 2024.
Lathrop saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maci De Costa, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Kendall Stewart also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Johansen had to endure a five-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They put the hurt on Pacheco with a sharp 18-8 victory on Wednesday. The Vikings' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Johansen got a massive performance out of California Weed, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That's the most runs Weed has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Olivia Sanchez, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Johansen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .698. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Johansen's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Lathrop, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.
Johansen's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Lathrop has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Johansen, though, as they've been averaging only 2 strikeouts. Will Lathrop keep running through batters, or will Johansen buck the trend?
Lathrop took their victory against Johansen when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1. Does Lathrop have another victory up their sleeve, or will Johansen turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
