Saugus is 8-2 against Hart since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Centurions will face off against the Hawks at 3:15 p.m. Saugus is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
On Tuesday, Saugus needed a bit of extra time to put away West Ranch. They walked away with an 11-8 victory over the Wildcats.
The team relied heavily on Savanna Smith, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2025. Juliana Beadnell also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Saugus kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.2.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hart). They blew past Golden Valley 11-1 on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Hawks considering their two-run performance the game before.
Ellie Hodge made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Naima Melendez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Makenzie Druez, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Saugus' record now sits at 9-5. As for Hart, their record is now 6-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Saugus hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Hart struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Saugus' way against Hart when the teams last played back in April of 2025, as Saugus made off with a 20-1 win. Will the Centurions repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
