AAAA Region VII recap November 5, 2013
Goose Creek added to the longest winning streak in AAAA Region VII this week by beating West Ashley, 49-21. The win marks 10th in a row for the the Gators.
The Wildcats lost to Goose Creek 49-21 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Chuck Reedy's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Dantez Bennamon threw for 109 and 1 touchdown and Deondre Daniels had 68 yards receiving. On the ground Tyrik Johnson chipped in 222 yards. Jordan Barnes helped Goose Creek's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 41 yards.
Johnson was a force in the backfield as the Gators beat West Ashley.
Johnson was a passing and rushing force as Goose Creek topped Robert Marion's team. Johnson's key target this week was Daniels, who caught 5 passes for 68 yards.
Johnson was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 20 carries, he ran for 222 yards as the Gators beat the Wildcats. Bennamon also contributed to the rushing game with 67 yards on the ground.
Goose Creek's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Gators feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Bennamon has thrown for 1,087 yards and 7 touchdowns this season, while Barnes has 34 catches for 498 yards.
The most important game in the league this week will be the match up between Stratford and Goose Creek. The Knights enters the game ranked 11th in the state, while the Gators ranks third.
Goose Creek's Johnson is a mere 5 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 68 carries Johnson has accumulated 995 yard this year.
The Gators' offense has recorded 502 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Knights have permitted only 144 on the year.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Stratford takes on Goose Creek. The Knights have allowed 144 points this season, while the Gators have given up 194. Stratford allowed 26 points last week as it lost to South Florence.
