Churchill County has gone 8-2 against Spring Creek recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Greenwave will be playing at home against the Spartans at 3:00 p.m. One thing working in Churchill County's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four contests.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Churchill County and Lowry meet (two straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Saturday. The Greenwave were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Buckaroos.
Luis Lopez-Pinuelas tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Churchill County got a massive performance out of Evan Giovanetti, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most hits Giovanetti has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Carnahan, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
Churchill County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Spring Creek sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over Fernley on Saturday.
Dylan Patton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on eight hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Spring Creek's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Wyatt Sandoval, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Churchill County is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Spring Creek, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 14-12.
Spring Creek's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Churchill County has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Spring Creek, though, as they've been averaging 9.3 hits. Given Churchill County's sizable advantage in that area, the Spartans will need to find a way to close that gap.
Churchill County skirted past Spring Creek 4-3 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Greenwave repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
