Aerianna Desmith was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had over her last six games. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Birkley Schelsky, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Taya Sturmer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Parke Heritage hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, with a playoff win on the line, Greencastle rose to the challenge on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 2-1. The Tiger Cubs haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Ali Hassler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Greencastle saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyler Rumley, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI. Marley Stokes also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Greencastle's win bumped their record up to 8-13. As for Parke Heritage, their victory bumped their record up to 8-16.
Greencastle's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Parke Heritage hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. It's a different story for Greencastle, though, as they've only averaged .258. Will they be able to contain Parke Heritage's hitters?
Parke Heritage might still be hurting after the 6-0 defeat they got from Greencastle in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
