Coalfield has gone 8-2 against Oneida recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Indians at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Coalfield has four straight victories, Oneida has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Tuesday, Coalfield got the win against Midway by a conclusive 10-4. Considering the Yellow Jackets have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Olivia Laymance spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ashton Chamblee was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Baylee Chadwick, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Chamblee wasn't the only one making solid contact: Coalfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Oneida lost 11-1 to Eagleton College & Career Academy on Wednesday.
Oneida saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lillian Hailey, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Coalfield pushed their record up to 14-2-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Oneida, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-13.
Oneida's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Coalfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .350. It's a different story for Oneida, though, as they've only averaged .258. Will they be able to contain Coalfield's hitters?
Coalfield took their win against Oneida in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 10-0 score. Do the Yellow Jackets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
