Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westerville North). They put the hurt on the Westland Cougars with a sharp 18-3 win on Monday. With that victory, the Warriors brought their scoring average up to 6.9 runs per game.
Ethan Robinson made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Westerville North's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Robinson was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Westerville North got a massive performance out of Dane Blackstone, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits Blackstone has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Thomas Mercurio, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.
Westerville North kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westland only managed three hits.
Westerville North is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Westland, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.
Looking ahead, Westerville North will challenge Big Walnut at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight.
