The Uniontown Red Raiders pushed their score all the way to 65 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Belle Vernon 69-65. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (55), Uniontown still had to take the loss.
Several Red Raiders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jeremiah Hager, who went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 21 points and 1 assist. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hager has scored all season. Tori Grooms was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Uniontown has not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 15-3 record this season. As for Belle Vernon, their victory bumped their record up to 10-4.
Uniontown will be playing in front of their home fans against the Scotties at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Southmoreland knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully the Red Raiders likes a good challenge. Belle Vernon is on the road again on Friday and plays the Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Laurel Highlands has now lost 14 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 12.
