Holmes had lost seven straight at home, but on Monday they dropped down to 1-14-1 to make it eight. They came up short against the Heritage Academy Eagles, falling 11-2. The Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 12-5.
Tyler Brashear was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. Brashear was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Heritage Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-9. Considering they have won six games by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Holmes, Heritage Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Bob Brown. He struck out 16 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Those 16 strikeouts gave Brown a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other pitching news, Austin Brown looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Jacob Muse was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Hunter Boswell, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.
Looking ahead, Holmes will welcome Villa Madonna at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Heritage Academy, they will square off against Dayton at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
