It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Taylorsville Tartars can now relate to. They were the victim of a tough 44-22 defeat at the hands of the Falcons on Friday. Taylorsville's loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.
Despite the defeat, Taylorsville saw an underclassman step up: Trey Barnes rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
Velma Jackson got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Gavin Griffin out in front who rushed for 191 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.6 yards per carry. Griffin has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Tyshun Willis, who picked up 142 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Velma Jackson's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Chris Rougely was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Taylorsville's loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Velma Jackson, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 13-0.
Taylorsville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Velma Jackson will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Biggersville at 7:00 p.m. on December 1st. Biggersville is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
