It was a good run, but the Fort Thomas Apaches unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of St. David by a score of 50-48. While losing is never fun, Fort Thomas can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while St. David is ranked 16th).
Fort Thomas lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tyesha Wilson, who scored 12 points along with eight steals. The game was Wilson's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamie Johnson, who scored nine points.
St. David was led to victory by Anissa Jacquez and Mayla Trejo. Jacquez dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Trejo scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which Trejo has scored at least 25% of St. David's points. Another player making a difference was Emma Hart, who scored five points.
Fort Thomas' defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for St. David, they pushed their record up to 11-0 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.
Fort Thomas' road trip will continue as they head out to face Duncan at 5:30 p.m. on December 14th. Duncan's defense has only allowed 25.8 points per game this season, so Fort Thomas' offense will have their work cut out for Fort Thomas. St. David will be home for the holidays to greet Safford at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Safford is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
