After a string of three wins, the Centennial Broncos's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 46-45 to Fillmore Central. While losing is never fun, Centennial can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 60th, while Fillmore Central is ranked 19th).
Centennial lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Devin Slawnyk, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Alex Hirschfeld, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds.
Fillmore Central's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jarin Tweedy, who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiffin Theobald, who scored 11 points.
Centennial's defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-4. As for Fillmore Central, they pushed their record up to 14-1 with that victory, which was their 12th straight at home.
Centennial will take on Thayer Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Thayer Central is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. As for Fillmore Central, they will head out on the road to challenge Gibbon at 7:45 p.m. on Friday.
