Basketball Recap: Makayla Richardson Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Vance County

Bunn lost to Vance County back in December of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Bunn Wildcats secured a 36-30 W over the Vance County Vipers. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Wildcats' disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 301st, while the Vipers are ranked 65th).

Bunn's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makayla Richardson, who posted 17 points. Richardson has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ny'Lah Mitchell, who earned six points and eight rebounds.

Vance County lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Da'Shunti Hester, who put up ten points. Another player making a difference was Queenie Whittler, who had eight points.

Bunn is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season. As for Vance County, with the loss, they broke their eight-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-1.

Bunn will face off against Southern Nash at 5:45 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Bunn is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games. As for Vance County, they are taking a road trip to take on Carrboro at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Vance County's defense has only allowed 27.8 points per game this season, so Carrboro's offense will have their work cut out for them.
